About Our Research Group

Advanced Data Analytics (Modelling & Simulation) is a research group at University of Southern Queensland in School of Sciences operating under Institute of Life Sciences and Environment collaborating with Schools, Centres and other universities. Through research and training of early career researchers, this group specialises in building smart systems using advanced analytics to improve the overall system efficiency. Our focus is to adopt latest AI methods in health, education, energy, food security and agriculture, solar radiation, air quality and telecommunications research building smart algorithms for pattern recognition and data mining that can support real-life decision-making process.

This higher degree by research (HDR) group was formed by Professor Ravinesh Deo, the supervisor for PhD and master’s research providing enriched learning experience to his postgraduate students. Prof Ravinesh Deo recently received Employee Achievment Award [Ronel Erwee Memorial Award for Excellence in Postgraduate Research Supervision] demonstrating ultimate learning experience for PG students and HES Faculty Excellence in Research for highly productive research leadership within the Faculty of Health Engineering and Sciences.

The HDR group involves associate supervisors specialising in computing, mathematics, science, engineering technology, health, data science and artificial intelligence. Our group develops machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms, deep reinforcement learning, meta-models, explainable and interpretable AI and contemporary models. The group completed projects with external industries incl. Australian Bureau of Statistics, Queensland Government, Australian Defence Science and Technology and works with overseas universities in the Pacific, UK, USA, Europe & Asia. The group has external supervisors from industry and academia supporting and many collaborating with USQ supervisors.
