Weekly Reflections
Week 1.
Before starting this course I was a little anxious as I always struggled with maths at school. After finishing this weeks work it is evident that there are many resources that can assist me to teach when I have a class of my own. This has made me feel a little more confident. This week on addition has shown me creative ways to introduce this topic in the classroom.
Week 2.
Introducing subtraction seemed to be quite straight forward after exploring addition. My text book arrived this week which offered a lot of information that I did not see in the lectures. I also took the test for the first time today which left me a little disheartened as my marks were not as good as I had hoped for the numeracy skills.
Week 3.
I found this week much more challenging then the first two weeks. This week I revisited concepts I had learnt at school and refreshed my mind. I had trouble uploading the lecture for the first few days but eventually used a different computer.
Week 4.
This week I learnt that these entries should have been in a blog rather then a word document. I also realised the extent to which I relied on my calculator through high school.
Week 5.
Through the lectures and other related activities, I learnt this week that there is much more background or pre number principles that students need to learn before counting. I also learnt the 3 different types of numbers.
Week 6.
Week 6 taught me about 'mental computation' and ways to develop this for students. I found it hard to understand at first, but after revisiting the lectures I believed I had developed a better understanding.
Week 7.
To be honest I was slightly nervous to start work on fractions as it was the mathematical concept I struggled with the most through school. My confidence, however, built much more as I realised I knew a lot more then I previously thought I did.
