Design and Technologies
Forces and Properties of Materials
- Investigate how forces and the properties of materials affect the behaviour of a product or system (ACTDEK011)
- Select and use materials, components, tools and equipment using safe work practices to make designed solutions (ACTDEP016)
- Generate, develop, and communicate design ideas and decisions using appropriate technical terms and graphical representation techniques (ACTDEP015)
- Plan a sequence of production steps when making designed solutions individually and collaboratively (ACTDEP018)
Reviewing this resource, it is an excellent resource for beginning teachers as is it aligns with the Australian Curriculum and the General Capabilities. It also indentifies extra resources that are required to fulfill the lesson plan ideas. Beginning teachers should use this resource to teach in technology and/or science.
Paper Planes
Recognise the role of people in design and technologies occupations and explore factors, including sustainability that impact on the design of products, services and environments to meet community needs ?(ACTDEK010)
Critique needs or opportunities for designing and explore and test a variety of materials, components, tools and equipment and the techniques needed to produce designed solutions (ACTDEP014)
This resource focuses on students to select a design of aircraft and to modify it to thier own satisfaction. The resource then provides a task for assessment for the students to complete discussing topics about their planes. This resource has links to NSW, QLD and Australian Curriculum and covers cross-curriculur priorites.
Marble run challenge
Generate, develop, and communicate design ideas and decisions using appropriate technical terms and graphical representation techniques (ACTDEP015)
Investigate the suitability of materials, systems, components, tools and equipment for a range of purposes (ACTDEK013)
This resource is aesthetically pleasing for teachers, students and parents. It provides examples of what is needed, it is simple for students to log in, access and understand. It explains how it utilises the Australian Curriculum and the cross-curriculur priorities. It provides step by step instructions, blogging requirements and activities for the students that are fast finishers.
Earthquakes!
Recognise the role of people in design and technologies occupations and explore factors, including sustainability that impact on design of products, services and environments to meet community meet community needs (ACTDEK010)
Plan a sequence of production steps when making designed solutions individually and collaboratively (ACTDEP018)
This website is two-sided. The opening page is for students to navigate through a webquest and the Teacher page explains what links are made back to curriculum, resources required and the process needed to achieve student outcomes.
Digital Technologies
Teaching Kids to Code with Scratch
- Define simple problems, and describe and follow a sequence of steps and decisions (algorithms) needed to solve them (ACTDIP010)
- Implement simple digital solutions as visual programs with algorithms involving branching (decisions) and user input (ACTDIP011)
In this series of lesson plans and activities, students learn how to code learning binary code and how to follow alogrithms. They create simple algorithms to make programs react to their instructions and also use visual diagrams and pictures to model their processes. Reviewing this resource, it allows teachers to access a unit of work and assessment pieces to effectively teach whilst aligning with the curriculum.
Imaginitive Devices
Identify and explore a range of digital systems with peripheral devices for different purposes, and transmit different types of data (ACTDIK007)
Explain how student solutions and existing information systems meet common personal, school or community needs (ACTDIP012)
This resource focuses on the usage of technology in a students day to day life. By the end of this unit students will create a device that will help around either the home or school. The will understand what is a peripheral device is. They can explain how the device can be used by a student, parent, teacher etc and present this new technology to their class and teacher.
Using code to find treasure
Explain how student solutions and existing information systems meet common personal, school or community needs (ACTDIP012).
Recognise different types of data and explore how the same data can be represented in different ways (ACTDIK008)
This resource is created for both teacher and student. The teacher side provides lesson plans for 45 minute lessons working towards the end result of students being able to deveolp a map leading to a treasure chest with code.
Basic Coding
Implement simple digital solutions as visual programs with algorithms involving branching (decisions) and user input (ACTDIP011)
Recognise different types of data and explore how the same data can be represented in different ways (ACTDIK008)
This resource contains information relating to the alignment with the Australian Curriculum, provides student outcomes after completion of lesson ideas on a week-to-week basis about basic coding methods.
